They'd landed in the Danger Room.

They should have set off various security protocols, but from where Scott stood, he could tell nothing was running. The door was half open, the power that should have been keeping it locked closed not running as usual.

Stay here, he commanded crisply, not getting any arguments. He glanced at Hank and Raven, gesturing for them to join him.

Look after them? Scott sent to Jean along their pyschic link, at which she just nodded. The three of them moved out, spreading out to check the school, finding the place fairly damaged - someone, or something, had broken in here, caused a lot of damage. There was minimal signs of life - one of the bedrooms was being used, as was the kitchen.

It wasn't until they started to head for the Danger Room that they found the mysterious resident, the ever-cocky Devon Alomar.

Well, look who it is... it's about time. He smirked at the three X-Men, looking around to see if anyone was with them.

What happened here? Scott demanded, his concern for the missing students - and Xavier - making him furious.

This and that... there's a lot to tell. Drag up a seat, I'll fill you in.

The others... they should hear this as well. Hank, Raven? Could you bring everyone up?

Not necessary, Scott. Jean had kept a telepathic eye on them, letting the kids out of the Danger Room as soon as she knew it was safe. They all crowded the hall way, looking at Devon.

Well... And he began his story...

Once, Longshot had promised Kitty that they'd be going home.

And going home they were. Arize wanted to test the portal a little more, but with the news that the other Spineless Ones were planning an assault on the capital, Longshot wanted everyone - Ali - out of there as soon as he could.

So he'd told them to pack, that they'd be home for dinner. He didn't know what they'd find at home, but... it would be their home.

He wasn't going to be able to join them either. Being parted from Ali would devestate him, but their children deserved the right to be born and live somewhere that wasn't a war zone.

You don't need to stay, Arize had said. Thanks to you, the rebels have united. They'll be able to look after themselves.

Longshot had shaken his head, looking over at Arize. I can't abandon them now, not after I've got this far.

And Ali? You'd abandon her?

Ali... she has her friends. She's going home. She'll... she'll be fine.

Arize had shaken his head, watching Longshot stride away.

Longshot stood at the door to the portal chamber, watching everyone arrive. The Earthlings couldn't wait to get home, the Interdimensionals apprehensive, not sure what they were getting themselves into. Their Earths had never been particularly friendly, and they only had second-hand information about this one. But anything was better than this place, right?

Go on... he said, grinning at all of them. Home awaits. He waves a hand at the portal, grinning as the kids start to pour through it. Ali came over to him, taking his hand to go through with him. He just shook his head, disentangling his hand from hers.

I can't go with you, not now. But I'll follow you, I promise. But his gaze doesn't quite meet Ali's, instead meeting Jean's behind Ali's head.

{You're really not coming?} Jean asked him telepathically, Longshot shaking his head slowly.

Just as Jean comes to coax Ali away from Longshot, there's a huge blast, which threw everyone bar Ali to the ground - a combination of Longshot's luck, as he threw himself under her, and Jean's tk softening the landing.

Get out of here! All of you! Arize yells, frantically pressing buttons. The portal is going to self-destruct in ten seconds!

Torn between saving his people, and never seeing his wife and children, Longshot scoops Ali up, and throws them both through the portal, Jean and Scott quickly following. There's a flash of light, and then they're all home.
